National Brain Tumor Awareness Month

National Brain Tumor Awareness Month

For some, the journey with a brain tumor may be a month; some a year, some 5 years, and some for over a decade. My journey started in the fall of 2012 which was the beginning of my senior year of high school. I remember feeling sicker than I had ever felt in my entire life, and it lasted for weeks. Those weeks led to months, and months eventually led to years. I would vomit just about every day until the discovery of a brain tumor saved my life. That’s right, I went through most of my entire journey with a brain tumor that myself, my family, and medical professionals didn’t even know was there. This was until the day I first noticed I was seeing double. At first it was gradual, like when I looked out to my right while on the golf course or in my college classes, but it became constant just hours later. Things were heading downhill fast.

Hello! My name is Isa and I’m 12 years old and a Cadette in Girl Scout Troop 9934. I’m from Philadelphia, PA, and I’ve attended St. Margaret’s School since 1st grade. I’ve been a part of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania since Kindergarten, when I was a Daisy. I loved it then, and I still love it now!

PR's 4th Annual Black Friday Fundraiser

PR's 4th Annual Black Friday Fundraiser

A few years ago we were sitting around trying to come up with some good deals for Black Friday. We tossed a few ideas out but nothing felt right. We wanted to do something different. Something to show the community around us what we are thankful for. Something to make a difference. We decided to give back to some of our close charity partners who give to and support our community all year long.

ACS Team DetermiNation: Marathon Story

ACS Team DetermiNation: Marathon Story

As the running community is well aware, it's fall marathon season.  Those of us training for the Philadelphia Marathon on November 19th, or various other 26.2 mile races, are already cranking out long runs every weekend.  This year, after a two-year hiatus, I am returning to marathon training -- this time for the Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon on December 2nd.  And once again, I am training with the help of my running team, American Cancer Society DetermiNation Philadelphia.

Destination Races: Fall Back in Love with Running

Let me should be clear: I am not writing to help make your next race easy. Marathons are never easy. Do we not remember the story of Pheidippides? If not, look it up.
