Citywide Group Runs in Support of Boston Marathon Tragedy

Citywide Group Runs to Support Boston. (Updated 4/18 1PM)

Thursday, April 18th. 7 PM

We have seen a huge outpouring from the community in Philadelphia. Tons of people are asking “what can we do?” After speaking to several groups in the area and other stores, it sounds like the best thing we can do is:

Go for a run.

Join local running groups, running stores, and running friends as we run across Philadelphia on Thursday night to show our support for our friends in Boston. Wear blue and yellow (Boston Marathon colors) or whatever else makes you feel comfortable in paying tribute to the tragedy in Boston. Runs will meet at various locations throughout the city at 7PM*. They will then run to City Hall where we will meet in the courtyard at 7:30. At 7:40/7:45 there will be some brief words and then we will run together, as a large unified group, down Market Street to Independence Mall between 6th and 5th. At this point, runners will continue on their own runs and will disperse by themselves or with their groups that they came with.

If anyone would like to build on the spirit of camaraderie afterward, they can head to Old City to grab a drink with the Fishtown Beer Runners or any other group that wishes to socialize and get to know one another afterward (Khyber Pass, Buffalo Billiards and Plough and Stars have all been notified). Everyone expresses support and grief in different ways so there will be no official post-run event or announcements but we have notified these businesses in order to provide places for people to go to be with each other and get to know their fellow runners better. Please check with leaders at the group meet up locations for details on your group’s plans after the run. We are encouraging runners to not loiter on Market street after the run is over. The city has been very supportive but we want to make sure we do not overstay our welcome.
